Bulawayo Man Accused of Breaking Into Ex-Wife’s Home and Raping Her Twice

A 38-year-old Bulawayo man has been brought before the courts after allegedly breaking into his ex-wife’s home in Old Magwegwe and raping her on two separate occasions.

The suspect, Brighton Dube, appeared before Bulawayo Regional Magistrate Mr. Mark Dzira facing charges of rape. He was remanded in custody until October 1, pending trial.

According to the State, represented by prosecutor Hazel Ncube, the incident occurred in the early hours of July 27. At around 4 a.m., Dube, together with an accomplice, allegedly smashed a bedroom window to gain entry into the complainant’s home, where she was sleeping with her boyfriend.

The court heard that Dube’s accomplice chased the boyfriend away before Dube forcibly dragged the complainant from the bedroom into the sitting room, where her children were sleeping. He allegedly switched off the lights, ordered her to lie on some blankets, and raped her.

The complainant later underwent a medical examination, and the State indicated that a medical affidavit will be produced as part of the evidence during trial.
