Unlicensed Driver Jailed for Negligent Driving in Banket

A 45-year-old Banket man has been jailed for driving without a licence and negligent driving.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe ( NPAZ), Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court sentenced Tamuka Gweshe (45) to 12 months in prison for driving without a licence and negligent driving.

“On the 21st of July 2024, at around 0920 hours at the 18km peg on the Banket Trelawney Road, the offender drove negligently, leading to a head-on collision with a motorbike, injuring the victim who was riding a motorbike.

The offender then fled the scene, leaving the victim alone. The victim had his leg amputated as a result of the injuries he sustained,” said the NPAZ statement.

The offender was sentenced to 12 months in prison with 6 months suspended for 5 years. In the second offence the offender was sentenced to 12 months in prison with 6 months suspended for 5 years; he will serve an effective 12 months.

The NPAZ reminds the public that driving without a licence is an offence, negligence and reckless driving will not be tolerated.
