Blanket Mine Worker Killed in Secondary Blasting Accident

A tragic accident at Blanket Mine in Gwanda has claimed the life of one employee, leaving the mining community in shock.

In a statement on Monday, the mine’s parent company, Caledonia Mining Corporation Plc, confirmed the incident and expressed deep sorrow over the loss.

“It is with regret that Caledonia Mining Corporation Plc reports that an accident took place on September 22, 2025, at the Blanket Mine in Zimbabwe, as a result of which one Blanket Mine employee lost his life,” the company said.

The fatality was linked to secondary blasting, a process used to break down large rocks following the initial explosion.

Caledonia stated that its immediate focus is the safety and well-being of all workers and that a full investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the accident.

“No further information will be released until the authorities complete their inquiry,” the company added.

Caledonia extended its condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.
