Zimdancehall artist Nyasha Reginald Mano, popularly known as Ras Pompy, has been sentenced to six months in prison after being caught with banned cough syrups in his car.
The 27-year-old musician was arrested on July 16, 2025, after a dramatic police chase in central Harare.
Detectives had flagged his black Honda Fit, which was already on a watch list of vehicles suspected of ferrying drugs.
When officers tried to intercept him, Ras Pompy sped off, triggering a pursuit through city streets.
The chase ended when his vehicle crashed.
Upon searching the wreck, police discovered a stash of illegal cough syrups, substances often abused as recreational drugs.
Ras Pompy was subsequently charged and convicted under the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act.
Magistrates handed him a six-month custodial sentence, marking another high-profile drug-related conviction amid Zimbabwe’s ongoing crackdown on substance abuse.
Ras Pompy, who rose to fame as a teenage Zimdancehall sensation, now joins a growing list of public figures whose careers have been derailed by drugs.
